Council's July In-Person Meet & Greet
Notes from Lucas Jenson, Council President
Our last opportunity to gather for what had been regular meet-ups was in October 2020 so by July 22, 2021 there was lots of pent up energy and enthusiasm to get together again. And I was pretty excited to be hosting this event at my shop, The Treehouse Hardwoods, along with my neighbor Adam Buchwald of Allied Lutherie. It turned out to be a stellar day for a party. We kicked off the tours with about 30 woodworkers, starting at The Treehouse at 3pm and then heading next door to Allied Lutherie. Adam and I used the meet-up as a chance to invite customers to a late afternoon and evening Open House so by 4:30 the party was in full swing.
Burgers and dogs were coming off the grill; the brew was freely flowing from two kegs; music and conversation filled the air. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so many smiling faces enjoying such a beautiful sunny day outdoors. The camaraderie was palpable between old friends and new acquaintances.
For me, this day was not only a chance to celebrate after such a long hiatus but as much an opportunity to connect on a business level with colleagues. I can’t begin to quantify the benefit I’ve seen for my business by being an active member of the Wood Works Council and participating in events like this. There’s no better way to network than in person at a shop tour. Wood Works Council members are really good collaborators and in a small state like Vermont there’s a lot to be gained by staying connected.
The Council is looking forward to returning to a regular schedule of meet-ups and we hope to announce our next event for September. We also hope to see all of you for a future event.
